Confidential 100 metre plus Lurssen

Many of the surveys that we are asked to undertake occur under terms of strict confidentiality, so we’re often not a liberty to talk about our surveys on some of the World’s most iconic yachts. This 100 metre plus Lurrsen was a case in point. She’s instantly recognisable wherever she goes and sets the bar in terms of style and performance. We undertook a pre purchase survey for the buyer over 5 days with a team of 5 surveyors from Yacht Survey Partners, together with technical specialists from MTU and deKeizer. Our final report, which was over 400 pages long, was delivered to the buyer’s team just 3 days after we left the boat, meeting the very strict timetable agreed between the buyer and seller. It was a pleasure to be able to work with the team from Edmiston. We wish her new owner and crew all the best with her.

Lessons learned from managing major insurance claim repairs in a shipyard

If an owner is very unlucky, their yacht may sustain damage that requires time in a shipyard to undertake repairs. Martin Redmayne at The Superyacht Report was kind enough to ask me to contribute and article to explain what can be expected by the owner’s team, and how they, the shipyard and the surveyor can work together to deliver a successful outcome.

Superyacht Investor Conference Interview

Richard Franklin, the managing partner of Yacht Survey Partners, shared the stage with David Maass from Alley Maass Rogers Lindsay, Bob Allen from Robert Allen Law and Alex Sayegh from HFW to discuss managing the superyacht survey process under both MYBA and IYBA contracts in a panel expertly moderated by Alasadair Whyte of Superyacht Investor.

Savannah – the iconic 83.5m Feadship

We’re fortunate in being asked to survey some of the World’s most beautiful and technically complex yachts, but not many stand out as much as the stunning 2015 83.5 metre Feadship SAVANNAH, for which the overused word iconic would in this instance be more than appropriate. Taking her hybrid propulsion system through its paces during the sea trial was a perfect opportunity to understand and test the system, with the team of five surveyors from Yacht Survey Partners working closely with the Captain and Chief Engineer to develop and execute a rigorous sea trial protocol. We wish her new owner and crew all the best witb her.

A team of 5 surveyors from Yacht Survey Partners conducted the in water survey and sea trial whilst the boat was still in the hands of the Feadship’s delivery team. Great start to 2025 with many high profile surveys

We’ve seen a busy start to 2025 with the number of large pre purchase surveys well ahead of previous years and continuing to look busy into the second half of the year, despite the uncertain outlook for the brokerage market.

We’re pleased to have been asked to undertake pre purchase surveyors on many of this year’s high profile transactions, including Savannah, Les Cinq (Feadship Project 825), Amigos, Galene, Axis and many more that we’re not allowed to name.

Superyacht Investor Conference 2025

Yacht Survey Partners are delighted that Richard Franklin, its managing partner, will be returning as a speaker to the Superyacht Investor Conference 2025. We will be sharing the stage with David Maass from Alley, Maass, Rogers and Lindsay Jay Tooker from HFW to discuss managing the superyacht survey process under both MYBA and IYBA contracts.

The panel discussion should be an interesting opportunity to discuss some of the key issues that typically arise during a pre purchase survey with some great superyacht sale and purchase lawyers, so we’re looking forward to covering some ground with them and exploring the fine detail of MYBA clause 27. I’m sure that this will give us an opportunity to cover the definition and interpretation of defects, which is so critical to the outcome of the survey process and which has so much potential to problematic if not approached very carefully.

Richard is scheduled to speak at 1220 on Wednesday 26 March 2025, which is day 2 of the conference, further details of which can be found here. The list of speakers and topics for the conference looks very interesting and we look forward to being a part of it.
